Job-Hunt.org www.job-hunt.org This outstanding Marlborough-based site, featuring on-target advice and extensive links, is a job seeker’s goldmine. Go to Job Sites and Employers and select Massachusetts for networking, employers, and online employment classifieds from newspapers. Pick Your Employer is a comprehensive starting point for employer research.

The Riley Guide www.rileyguide.com Another excellent comprehensive guide, well organized with solid advice and well-chosen, annotated links. If you’re looking in a particular field, check the extensive links to occupation-specific resources in Sites with Job Listings. One caution: the links in the top panel are ads and have not been vetted.
About.com: Job Searching http://jobsearch.about.com A wealth of info and links. Frequently updated.

Online Job Listings: A Few Good Places to Start

The Boston Globe www.boston.com/jobs They partner with monster.com.
Craigslist http://boston.craigslist.org Unique classified ads for jobs. If your field doesn’t fit cleanly in one of the categories under “Jobs,” click on the Jobs heading and use keywords (cashier, for example) to search. If you’re looking for a job like nanny or housecleaner, click on Gigs and search by keyword.
Indeed.com www.indeed.com Search engine with listings drawn from varied sources. Most come from employer sites or well-established job boards. Ads and sponsored links are fairly clearly marked.
Job Central www.jobcentral.com Large employer-owned site featuring many unique job listings. Their Mass jobs also appear in Massachusetts JobQuest
LinkedIn Jobs www.linkedin.com/jobs? For LinkedIn members. Indicates how you are connected to the employer.
Linkup www.linkup.com Search engine compiling jobs from company websites only; fewer scam jobs.
Massachusetts JobQuest https://web.detma.org/JobQuest The state’s job bank. Site also lists training programs. Good source for entry-level as well as other jobs. Lists Mass jobs from Job Central.
SimplyHired www.simplyhired.com Search engine. If you’re a LinkedIn or Facebook member, click Who Do I Know? in the top right column to see connections to employers. Sort by date to avoid starting with sponsored ads. Treat postings from unknown job boards with caution; check listings on employer sites and apply from there.

Most of the job boards and career guides they list are national in scope. The sites for workforce research and funding are primarily Massachusetts-based. Employer Information

Pick Your Employer and Finding Employer Web Sites in Job-Hunt.org, are terrific starting points. Their Finding the Best Employer page compiles employer lists–the biggest public and private, best places to work, and more.
Google (www.google.com) companies or organizations to find their websites. You can set up Google Alerts (www.google.com/alerts) to follow the news on your target companies.
Select “databases” on the Minuteman Library Network home page (www.mln.lib.ma.us) for business directories and to search for articles about employers in The Boston Globe and other newspapers and magazines. Many libraries provide free access to business databases like Reference USA, General BusinessFile, or Business & Company Resource Center.
Boston Public Library’s Kirstein Business Branch www.bpl.org/research/kbb/kbbhome.htm Boston Public Library’s business section houses extensive resources. Their expert librarians answer question in person and by phone. You’ll also find guides to online sources on Kirstein’s web page.

Two I like are: Beantown Web beantownweb.blogspot.com, primarily but not exclusive focused on the tech sector, features a monthly Startup Watch. Mass High Tech www.masshightech.com Journal of New England Technology. You can subscribe to a digital version, or take advantage of the wealth of info on their site. If you choose one of the navigation bar subheadings, you’ll get recent news feeds on subjects from Software to Envirotech.
Massachusetts: It’s All Here www.massitsallhere.com/Business This extremely useful state site lists a wide range of resources in business, creative economy, IT, clean industry, life sciences, manufacturing, and other areas of the state economy.
Researching Companies on the Internet www.learnwebskills.com/company/links.html Useful list.
Yahoo Finance News

For employee reviews and salary info: www.vault.com, www.glassdoor.com. www.careerleak.com, www.wetfeet.com. Glassdoor and Wetfeet list interview questions. Vault has info on industries and professions. Careerleak is free and doesn’t require registration.

Acton Networkers Support Group
www.actonnetworkers.com This active group holds meetings in Acton and Hopkinton. Among the useful info on their site are detailed lists of local networking groups and of area user groups and trade associations.
Boston Events List for Professionals www.bostoneventslist.com Extensive list of Boston-area professional networking and entrepreneurial events, conferences, trade shows, and more.
Massachusetts: It’s All Here www.massitsallhere.com/Business See the Employer Information section for more on this site, which also lists a wealth of networking groups and opportunities.
Massachusetts Nonprofit Network www.massnonprofitnet.org Their Training & Events Calendar is loaded with varied programs where you can hone skills and connect with people.
Meetup www.meetup.com Find job-search networking groups or other groups of interest near you.
